Hourly to Salary Calculator

Convert an hourly rate into weekly pay, monthly gross pay, and an estimated annual salary from your hours per week and weeks worked per year.

Your hourly rate and schedule

Enter your gross hourly rate and the hours and weeks you work. The conversion uses your schedule, not a fixed number of hours.

Enter your gross hourly rate before taxes and deductions.

The hours you work in a typical week, each at your hourly rate. Decimals such as 37.5 are fine.

Up to 52. Use 52 for a full year of work, or fewer to leave out weeks you do not work.

Private by design

How hourly-to-salary conversion works

  1. Start with your gross hourly rate

Enter your hourly pay before taxes and deductions: the rate in your offer letter or on your pay stub.

  2. Describe your work schedule

Enter the hours you work in a typical week and the weeks you work in a year. Decimals such as 37.5 hours or 50.5 weeks are fine.

  3. Count the hours in a year

Annual work hours are your hours per week × your weeks per year. 40 hours for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours.

  4. Multiply by the rate

Weekly gross pay is the rate × hours per week, annual gross pay is the rate × annual hours, and the monthly equivalent is the annual amount ÷ 12.

What changes annual pay

Why hours per week matter

Every hour you enter is paid at the same rate, so annual pay follows your hours: $30 an hour is $62,400 a year at 40 hours a week and $58,500 at 37.5. No overtime premium is added.

Why weeks per year matter

Weekly pay depends only on the rate and the hours in a week. The weeks you enter set how many of those weeks make up the year: $1,200 a week is $62,400 over 52 weeks and $57,600 over 48.

40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours

2,080 hours is a common reference for a full-time year: $30 × 2,080 = $62,400. It is only one schedule, so the calculator uses the hours and weeks you enter instead of assuming it.

Monthly equivalent

The monthly equivalent is annual gross pay ÷ 12. A month is about 4.33 weeks, so weekly pay × 4 would count only 48 weeks of pay a year. It is an equivalent amount, not a paycheck.

Paid time off

If your employer pays you for holidays or vacation, those weeks are paid even though you do not work them. Enter 52 weeks to count them at your hourly rate, or the weeks you work to leave them out. Payroll rules may differ.

Gross pay vs take-home pay

Every amount here is gross: before income taxes, payroll taxes, retirement contributions, insurance premiums, and other deductions. Take-home pay is lower, by amounts this calculator does not estimate.

Example calculation

A $30 gross hourly rate, annualized over a few schedules. Calculated the same way as the calculator above.

40 hours × 52 weeks

Annual work hours
40 × 52 = 2,080
Weekly gross pay
$30.00 × 40 = $1,200.00
Annual gross pay
$30.00 × 2,080 = $62,400.00
Monthly equivalent
$62,400.00 ÷ 12 = $5,200.00

Each amount is multiplied from the rate and rounded once. The annual amount is not the rounded weekly amount × weeks, and the monthly amount is not weekly pay × 4.

The same rate, other schedules

Annual work hours, weekly gross pay, and annual gross pay for each schedule in the example
ScheduleAnnual hoursWeeklyAnnual
40 h × 52 wk2,080$1,200.00$62,400.00
37.5 h × 52 wk1,950$1,125.00$58,500.00
40 h × 48 wk1,920$1,200.00$57,600.00
20 h × 52 wk1,040$600.00$31,200.00

Working 48 weeks instead of 52 leaves weekly pay at $1,200 but lowers annual pay, because fewer weeks make up the year.

Assumptions

  • The hourly rate is gross pay before taxes and deductions. No taxes, deductions, benefits, retirement contributions, or insurance premiums are calculated.
  • Annual work hours are hours per week × weeks worked per year, kept exact for up to two decimal places in each (37.5 × 52 = 1,950 hours).
  • Every hour entered is paid at the same hourly rate. Overtime rules and premiums, such as time and a half, are not applied.
  • Weekly gross pay is the rate × hours per week, and annual gross pay is the rate × annual work hours. The monthly equivalent is annual gross pay ÷ 12, never weekly pay × 4.
  • Each amount is calculated from the rate and the exact schedule on its own and rounded to the nearest cent once, so no amount carries another's rounding.
  • Paid time off counts only through the weeks you enter. Unpaid leave, tips, bonuses, commissions, shift differentials, and changes in pay during the year are not modeled.

Frequently asked questions

Is the estimated annual salary my take-home pay?
No. It is gross pay: your hourly rate × your work hours, before taxes and deductions. Take-home pay is lower after income taxes, payroll taxes, and deductions such as retirement contributions and insurance premiums.
Does the calculator include overtime?
No. It uses the same hourly rate for every hour entered and does not apply overtime rules. If you enter 50 hours a week, all 50 are counted at your rate. If some of your hours are paid at a higher overtime rate, your gross pay would be higher than this estimate.
Why doesn't the calculator assume 2,080 hours?
2,080 hours is 40 hours × 52 weeks, a common full-time reference. Many schedules differ: 37.5-hour weeks, part-time work, or weeks off. The calculator uses the hours and weeks you enter, so 40 and 52 give 2,080 only when that is your schedule.
Why is the monthly amount not weekly pay × 4?
Because a month is longer than four weeks: a 52-week year has about 4.33 weeks per month, so weekly pay × 4 adds up to only 48 weeks of pay a year. The monthly equivalent is annual gross pay ÷ 12.
What should I enter for weeks per year if I get paid time off?
It depends on what you want to estimate. If your vacation and holidays are paid at your hourly rate, enter 52 weeks to include that pay. Enter only the weeks you work, such as 48, to leave out weeks you are not paid for. Your employer's payroll rules may differ.
How does this relate to the Salary to Hourly Calculator?
It is the reverse conversion. On the same schedule, converting an hourly rate to annual pay and back returns the rate you started with. The other direction can differ slightly, because an hourly equivalent is rounded to the cent: $60,000 over 2,080 hours is $28.85 an hour, and $28.85 × 2,080 hours is $60,008.
Does Calcora store my information?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser. Your hourly rate and schedule are not sent to Calcora, stored, or shared.
