Methodology

How Calcora calculates

The standards every calculator follows, so you can see how a number was produced and decide how much to rely on it.

Our standards

  1. Formulas are documented

Each calculator page shows the formula it uses, defines every term, and explains how your inputs turn into the result.

  2. Assumptions are disclosed

Small choices change financial results: how often interest compounds, when payments are applied, and how amounts are rounded. Each calculator lists its assumptions so you can compare them with your lender's terms.

  3. Calculations are tested

Formulas live in standalone code that is tested against independently verified examples before a calculator launches. Every later change is checked against the same tests.

  4. Your numbers stay local

Wherever possible, calculations run on your device. The balances, rates, and payments you enter do not need to be sent to Calcora to produce a result, and Calcora does not store them.

  5. Results are educational estimates

Results depend on the numbers you enter and on the stated assumptions, and lenders may calculate differently. Calcora does not provide financial, legal, or tax advice.

Questions about the methodology

Is Calcora financial advice?
No. Calcora calculators provide educational estimates based on the numbers you enter and the assumptions shown with each result. For decisions about your own finances, consider talking with a qualified professional.
Does Calcora store the numbers I enter?
No. Calculators are designed to run in your browser, so the balances, rates, and payments you enter do not need to reach Calcora's servers to produce a result, and Calcora does not save them.
Why might my lender's numbers differ?
Lenders can use different compounding rules, payment dates, fees, or rounding. Each calculator lists the assumptions it makes, so you can see where a difference might come from.
